BWY Festival 2016
2 July 2016
I will be teaching two workshops at the British Wheel of Yoga Festival on Saturday 2 July
9:30-11:00:Â Flow into the present: vinyasa as a meditative tool
The body can be our map back to reality and sanity. We will flow from head to toe, stretching, strengthening, and experiencing the physical and energetic body as a means of bringing our attention into the present moment and experiencing undistorted reality – in contrast to almost everyone’s habit of living in illusory thoughts and emotions from the past or future. Learn to practice and teach with alignment and anatomical detail as a meditative tool rather than a tedious and dry geek-out. This will be a straight up and complete flow practice, strong but accessible to all levels. Expect to move, sweat, and get out of your head.

11:30-1:00:Â Trust and surrender: partner backbends and inversions
Learn to trust, give, and receive support for poses to include upward-facing bow, handstand, scorpion, and group drop-backs (don’t be frightened, anyone can do it this way!). Beginning with a strong rhythmic flow to warm our bodies up and focus our minds, we will have a generous amount of time to explore efficient and fun partner practice. Guidance will be given on how to properly assist these postures and safely work in groups of two or three. You may be surprised what you may achieve when you accept the support of a friend, and how powerful your encouragement and guidance may be to others. No need to be backbend or handstand masters, but please be comfortable enough to work on the postures.
